Going slightly off topic what did sadden me was reading an article the other day about the vast list of endangered animals on the planet due to various reasons like disease but the main reason man through destroying their habitats or poaching. It will be heart-breaking that many on here may well be telling their grandchildren (if we are still here ourselves as a species!) what an elephant, rhino, leopard, gorilla, orangutan, sea turtle or tiger was amongst others though mere old pictures or videos!

Birth rates and death rates fall as living standards rise.
There is no direct correlation between higher living standards and total population.
Anyway, population numbers are a total red-herring in this debate, which is about HOW we live, not HOW MANY of us they are.
The fossil fuel lobby on both sides of the political spectrum will do anything to frame the debate so we don't discuss what is relevant here.

As living standards have improved across the world, the population has risen.
The infant mortality rate across the world is lower than its ever been.
